The Columbus East Olympians nearly secured their first victory of the season Wednesday night at Olympian Field, leaning on a dominant pitching performance before ultimately falling in a late-inning surge. Rotert Controls the Mound and the Plate JD Rotert was the focal point for the Olympians, delivering a standout performance in multiple facets of the game. On the mound, Rotert threw six strong innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits while striking out six. Following a brief lapse in the third, he regained complete control, retiring the side in order for three consecutive innings. At the plate, Rotert was equally effective, leading the team with two hits in four at-bats. His biggest contribution came in the bottom of the third inning when he drove in the team's only run with a clutch single. Defensive Highlights and Base Running The Olympians showed flashes of aggression on the basepaths and consistency in the field throughout the evening: Zander Weatherford ignited the scoring in the third inning by reaching on a single and immediately stealing second base. Weatherford eventually crossed home plate after advancing to third on a defensive error by the Falcons. Ryker Stott provided strong relief pitching, contributing two perfect innings in the seventh and eighth to keep the game deadlocked at 1-1. Jacob Huffman and Kaden Arnholt also contributed hits to the Olympian total, with Huffman successfully stealing third base during the fifth inning. Logun Rager played a disciplined role, successfully executing a sacrifice bunt to move a runner into scoring position in the fourth. Late-Inning Opportunity Columbus East had a prime opportunity to clinch the win in the bottom of the eighth inning. After Rotert reached on an error and Arnholt singled, Aiden Bumbalough was intentionally walked to load the bases with two outs. However, the Olympians were unable to capitalize, leaving the runners stranded and sending the game into the ninth. Looking Forward Despite the 6-1 final score, the Olympians’ pitching staff combined for 12 strikeouts on the night. The team remains at home for their next matchup, seeking their first win against Indianapolis Arsenal Technical tonight (4/2).
