In a rivalry game where every play counts, the Columbus East boys soccer team delivered an impressive second-half rally. Down by two goals past the midway point of the second half, the Olympians scored twice in under two minutes to secure a dramatic 2-2 draw. The finish broke a winless streak against their crosstown rivals that dated back to 2021. The match was played under unique conditions at the shared BCSC Soccer Complex. Although both programs call the facility home and have dedicated locker rooms on site, the Olympians played as the designated visiting team on the scoreboard for this matchup. East faced a tough climb early in the contest. The defense gave up a goal on a free kick in the 19th minute, leaving the Olympians trailing 1-0 at halftime. Things grew harder in the 57th minute when another goal put East down 2-0. A point-blank shot off the crossbar in the 64th minute nearly pushed the deficit to three, but the miss kept the door open for East. The comeback began in the 66th minute. Standing 40 yards away from the net, Ethan Glick launched a high free kick that arced over the Bulldog goalkeeper and into the net to get East on the board. Just two minutes later, the Olympians struck again on a fast counterattack. Blake Plummer passed through defensive traffic to Ronan Maier, who created space near the net and rolled a shot inside the right post to tie the game. Senior goalkeeper Ryder Meek anchored the team throughout the night. Faced with constant pressure, Meek stopped 15 shots on goal, including several point-blank attempts, to keep the Olympians within reach. East made the absolute most of its opportunities, scoring on both of its shots on goal and holding firm over the final 12 minutes to lock up the draw. The Olympians will have a few days to recover and will play their first Hoosier Hills Conference match against the Seymour Owls on Thursday, 3rd. The battle for the coveted "O" Cup will be at the BCSC Soccer Complex starting at 7 p.m.
