Columbus East faced an unexpected setback Friday night at the Orange Pit, falling to East Central 53-47 in a game where the Olympians struggled to recover from an early deficit. Despite entering as heavy favorites, East found itself trailing by double digits in the first half and was unable to complete a late comeback. The Olympians made a strong push in the fourth quarter, going on a 12-3 run to cut the deficit to five with under a minute remaining. However, East Central held firm, hitting key free throws in the final seconds to secure the upset. Carter Patterson led Columbus East with 18 points, followed by Keaton Lawson with 12. Judah Lewis contributed eight points, while Mason Reeves added six. Danny Coriden scored three, and Grayson Watters, Anthony Cowan, and Jayden Thompson also saw action but did not score. The Olympians were without two key starters, as Alex Duncan remained in concussion protocol and Ethan Bumbalough was sidelined with an ankle injury. Now at 10-6 on the season, Columbus East will look to move forward quickly as they travel to Bloomington North for their next matchup tonight. (Saturday- 2/1/25).
