COLUMBUS EAST TENNIS COMPLEX — The Columbus East girls tennis team hosted the Whiteland Warriors on Tuesday night. While the team ultimately fell to Whiteland 4-1, No. 1 singles player Lauren Degner delivered an exciting comeback victory for the Olympians. Facing her opponent at the top singles spot, Degner demonstrated significant grit. After dropping the first set 4-6, she battled back convincingly, dominating the second set with a 6-1 win. This forced a deciding 10-point super tiebreaker, where Degner maintained her momentum, securing the match point for East with a 10-5 victory. In other matches, the Olympians competed hard against their Warrior counterparts. At No. 2 singles, Lilli Smith fell 6-0, 6-1, and Bruna Carreira lost 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. In doubles action, the No. 1 pairing of Luci Morales and Stefani Christopher faced a tough challenge, falling 6-1, 6-0. At No. 2 doubles, Zoe White and Melani Jimenez concluded their match with a 6-0, 6-1 scoreline. While the final team score favored the visitors, Lauren Degner's determined win at No. 1 singles was a standout moment for the home team. The Olympians continue to compete hard, gaining valuable court time and experience to build upon in upcoming matches.
