The Columbus East girls tennis team faced a tough challenge Thursday, falling 5-0 to Hoosier Hills Conference rival Jennings County. Despite a spirited effort on their home courts, the Olympians were overpowered by the undefeated Panthers. At No. 1 singles, Lauren Degner battled Kaydence Lowman before falling 6-1, 6-2. Bruna Carreira and Lillie Smith each competed hard at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, but were defeated in straight sets. In doubles play, the East pairings of Saya Hauser and Zoe White at No. 1, and Stefani Christopher and Luci Moralex at No. 2, worked to find rhythm against strong Panther combinations but were unable to break through. Columbus East will look to regroup and continue building experience as they face Franklin Community tonight (4/29) at Franklin Comm. High School. Match time: 5 p.m.
