Olympians Battle Hard, Fall in Straight Sets at New Albany

The Columbus East boys volleyball team hit the road Wednesday evening for a Hoosier Hills Conference showdown at New Albany. Despite a spirited effort, the Olympians couldn’t overcome the host Bulldogs, falling in three sets - 25-19, 25-11, 25-23. Senior Alex Duncan led the charge for the Olympians (now 9-13 on the season), contributing across the board with seven kills, nine assists, and a service ace. Alex Wenzler anchored the net defense with four blocks, while Ian Scholl kept rallies alive with a team-high 13 digs. Reid Coers also chipped in with a strong service game, delivering an ace. Scholl added three kills to his defensive work, and Wenzler tallied two kills of his own. Duncan and Justin Lopez each recorded two blocks, and the Ernst brothers, Tyler and Trevor, combined for 17 digs—10 and seven, respectively. The Olympians will look to bounce back tonight, as they head to Silver Creek High School to battle the Dragons. Match start time: 7 p.m.
