JENNINGS COUNTY H.S. - The Columbus East baseball team hit the road Thursday night to face a Hoosier Hills Conference opponent but came away with a 7-3 loss to Jennings County. Despite out-hitting the Panthers 7-5, the Olympians couldn’t overcome a mid-game scoring surge by the hosts. After falling behind early, East rallied with two runs in the fourth inning and added another in the fifth to stay within reach. However, they were held scoreless the rest of the way and left six runners stranded over the course of the game. Senior Marcus Wilkinson had a strong night at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Olympian offense. Seniors Jackson Watkins, Logan Warren, Eli Tindell, and sophomore Aiden Bumbalough each recorded a hit. Junior Bige Asher also chipped in with a hit and an RBI. On the mound, Watkins started and allowed two runs (one earned) over two innings, striking out three. Junior Kaden Arnholt pitched the final four frames, giving up five runs (two earned) and also striking out three. Defensively, East committed three errors, which proved costly in the middle innings. Senior Eli Tindell added a stolen base, but the Olympians couldn’t match their opponent's pressure on the basepaths. Looking to regroup, Columbus East will aim to bounce back tonight as they face the Bloomington South Panthers at "The Cauldron" tonight. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. Good luck Olympians!!
