The Columbus East girls tennis team made the trip north to Greenwood on Thursday evening, hoping to notch their second win of the season. While senior Lauren Degner delivered a gutsy performance at No. 1 singles, the Olympians came up short overall in a 4-1 loss to the host Woodmen. Degner bounced back after dropping the opening set, rallying to win the second set 6-3 and then dominating the decisive super tiebreak 10-4. Her comeback marked a bright spot on an otherwise difficult night for the 1-10 Olympians. East struggled to gain traction in the other courts. Bruna Carreira battled at No. 2 singles but fell 6-2, 6-2. At No. 3 singles, Lilli Smith took the 6-0, 6-0 defeat. The doubles teams also faced tough resistance. Saya Hauser and Zoe White dropped their No. 1 doubles match 6-1, 6-1, while the No. 2 duo of Stefani Christopher and Luci Morales were blanked 6-0, 6-0. Despite the lopsided scoreline, the Olympians continue to show fight in stretches, with Degner’s resilience a reminder of the potential within the lineup. The O's are back it, Monday, May 5th, when they host Hoosier Hills Conference opponent, the Bedford North-Lawrence Stars. Start time: 5:30 p.m.
