Columbus East Girls Shine at Hoosier Hills Conference Track & Field Championships

SEYMOUR HIGH SCHOOL – May 13, 2025 – The Columbus East High School girls track and field team competed at the Hoosier Hills Conference (HHC) tournament held Tuesday evening at Seymour High School. The Olympians achieved a conference champion, several top-three finishes, and numerous strong performances across various events. The Olympians grabbed 3rd place with a score of 78. Floyd Central won the HHC tournament with a score of 163. Leading the charge for the Olympians was sophomore Sophia Gallion, who claimed the HHC title in the Varsity Girls Shot Put Finals with a winning throw of 34 feet, 0.5 inches. The team saw multiple athletes reach the podium and score crucial points. In the Varsity Girls Discus Finals, senior Grace McMahan secured a strong second-place finish with a throw of 118 feet, 3 inches, while fellow senior Kendall Chapple took fourth place with a mark of 92 feet, 9 inches. McMahan also placed fifth in the shot put with a distance of 31 feet, 9.75 inches. Senior Carsyn Schlehuser had a busy and successful evening, earning a third-place finish in the Varsity Girls 200 Meter Dash Finals with a time of 27.24 seconds. She also placed fourth in the Varsity Girls 100 Meter Dash Finals (13.24 seconds) and tied for fourth in the Varsity Girls High Jump Finals, clearing 4 feet, 10 inches. Junior Sophie Glick also demonstrated her versatility, taking third place in the Varsity Girls 400 Meter Dash Finals in 1:03.14. She also placed seventh in the high jump (4-10) and sixth in the Varsity Girls Long Jump Finals with a leap of 14 feet, 10 inches. In the hurdles, junior Kai Scott earned a third-place finish in the Varsity Girls 300 Meter Hurdles Finals with a time of 49.94 seconds. Freshman Ainsley Shaw also medaled in the event, finishing sixth in 52.60 seconds. Scott and Shaw also made the finals in the Varsity Girls 100 Meter Hurdles, placing seventh (16.87) and eighth (16.92) respectively. Scott also competed in the long jump, finishing 11th (13-6). The distance crew also contributed significantly. Junior Meg Going ran to a third-place finish in the Varsity Girls 800 Meter Run Finals with a time of 2:37.77. Columbus East relay teams also performed well, with the Varsity Girls 4x100 Meter Relay team (51.97 seconds) and the Varsity Girls 4x400 Meter Relay team (4:30.34) both securing third-place finishes. The Varsity Girls 4x800 Meter Relay team earned fourth place with a time of 11:09.95.
