The Columbus East boys golf team faced a tough test Thursday morning in a cross-town showdown with Columbus North at Otter Creek Golf Club. Despite falling 345-308 to the Bull Dogs, the Olympians saw encouraging individual efforts and valuable experience gained as the postseason nears. Leading the way for East was Carter Greene, who carded an 82. Greene’s steady performance provided a bright spot for the Olympians, who continue to rely on his consistency at the top of the lineup. Ethan Bumbalough added an 85, followed closely by Mason Reeves with an 86. Braxton Burton rounded out the team scoring with a 92. Several other East golfers gained meaningful course time in the varsity match. Danny Coriden posted a 95, Jackson Miller a 96, and Luke Rice came in at 97. Lane Barringer added a 123 on a demanding morning for scoring. Though the team didn’t match the level of play they showed in recent outings, the Olympians remain focused on building momentum as the calendar turns toward sectional play. The experience of competing against a strong North lineup on one of the area’s toughest courses provides a foundation to grow from. Columbus East will look to regroup and sharpen its game in upcoming matches as the team works toward peaking at the right time. Next up: The O's will compete in the Hoosier Hills conference tournament hosted by Jeffersonville High School on Tuesday, May 27th at 9 a.m. IHSAA Sectional play begins Friday, June 6th.
