The Columbus East boys soccer team delivered one of its most complete performances of the season Saturday morning, shutting out Jeffersonville 1-0 in Hoosier Hills Conference action. The Red Devils entered the match averaging over three goals per game, but the Olympian defense was flawless, holding Jeffersonville without a single shot. Eduardo Aranda Michel played a key role in neutralizing Jeffersonville’s leading scorer, who had been averaging more than a goal per match but was limited to no attempts. East got all the offense it needed in the first half when Emilio Quintero Aguirre found the back of the net off an assist from Aranda Michel. From there, the Olympians locked in defensively and protected the slim advantage to the final whistle. “This was a big matchup for us in conference play, and the guys really stepped up,” head coach Sam LaVelle said. “Our back line was outstanding and everyone played their role in earning this win.” In the junior varsity match, the Olympians also came out on top, earning a 2-0 victory with goals from Adam Arnholt and Miguel Ferrer.
