Olympian Girls Basketball Opens Winter Sports Season with Competitive Scrimmage Against Jennings County

The Columbus East girls basketball team tipped off the 2025-26 winter sports season Wednesday evening inside the Orange Pit, hosting the Jennings County Panthers for an official IHSAA-controlled scrimmage. Like any early-season tune-up, the focus wasn’t on the scoreboard—it was on growth. Head coach Kaitlyn Phillips and her staff used the scrimmage as an opportunity to evaluate the roster, test lineups, and identify areas for improvement before the season officially begins. The Olympians were able to get valuable court time for 10 of their 11 varsity players, with one sidelined by injury. At times, East had as many as two or three freshmen on the floor together, gaining experience against a tough, well-coached Jennings County squad. East’s defensive intensity and hustle stood out throughout the evening, creating several turnovers and fast-break opportunities. Offensively, the Olympians showed promising flashes but also recognized where refinement is still needed—a natural part of any preseason scrimmage. Overall, it was a positive outing and a solid foundation to build upon as the regular season approaches. The Olympians officially open their season on Tuesday, November 4, when they host the Purdue Englewood Techies in the Orange Pit. The JV game tips off at 6 p.m., with the varsity to follow. Good luck to the Olympians as they embark on the 2025-26 season!
